Living in University
housing is a popular choice on Emory’s Atlanta campus. For Oxford continuees,
living in the residence halls offers an excellent opportunity to meet new
people and quickly become involved in the Emory community. There are many advantages
to on-campus living…here are the top ten.
1. LIVE SMART.
The experts agree! Recent research of college students across the nation indicates
that students who live on campus are more satisfied with their college experience,
earn higher grade point averages, and are more likely to graduate.*
*According to the American Council on Education, “Students who live on campus
have a 10 to 15 percent better chance of doing well in college than students
living off campus. On-campus students have better grades, take more units,
and are more likely to persevere to achieve a university degree.”
2. LIVE CONNECTED.
With an ethernet connection for every resident, wireless internet in each
residence hall, and computer labs in many of our residence halls, you are
sure to stay connected
with
professors,
family,
and friends!
3. LIVE COMFORTABLY.
All rooms are wired with Ethernet service, which includes direct
access to
on-line campus resources (classes, study groups, and library resources),
the internet, and e-mail. Residence hall rooms also have phone and
cable
connections. In addition, students who live on campus have easy access
to Emory’s computer labs, libraries, private study rooms,
multiple dining facilities,
and
recreational
facilities including cardiovascular and weight training machines, swimming
pools, tennis courts, and gyms.
4. LIVE SUPPORTED.
Each residence hall at Emory has a team of staff members who work cooperatively
to build and maintain a living and learning community in the residence
halls.
Staff members are available to assist you with personal and academic
concerns, and serve as liaisons between the University and yourself.
5.
LIVE CLOSE.
Sleep more, drive less. Students who live off campus often find themselves
sitting in traffic and wondering if they will make it to class on time.
Living at Emory means avoiding the
hassle of finding parking each morning, while enjoying the convenience
of living
near the library, food courts, gym, professors, computer labs, and
all the other
campus facilities.
6. LIVE SAFE.
Campus safety is a priority at Emory. The Emory Police Department (EPD)
and Residence Life & Housing staff members are available 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week to make sure students feel
safe in their home-away-from-home. All residence halls have controlled
access and are equipped with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
In addition,
the availability of the campus shuttle and 24-hour escort service,
provided by the Emory Police Department, allows students to travel
the campus feeling
safe.
7. LIVE HASSLE-FREE.
As a resident in on-campus housing, students can save money by making one
payment that covers ALL the costs: utilities, rent, furniture, amenities,
and shuttle transportation around campus. Students living at Emory avoid
the hassles of setting up utilitie, paying monthly bills, and wasting time
driving to and from class, the library, or the gym.
8. LIVE WITH OPPORTUNITIES.
On-campus residents have the opportunity to enhance their educational and
leadership experiences byparticipating in residence hall activities such
as lectures, programs, speeches, and involvement in the Residence Hall
Association. In addition, living at Emory provides more opportunities to
interact with staff and faculty who can provide invaluable personal guidance,
career guidance, career connections, and leadership opportunities.
9. LIVE WITH FRIENDS
On-campus housing provides a once in a lifetime experience, including options
like Block Housing, which allows you to live in your own space and
still live next to your closest friends. In addition, on-campus residents
are introduced to individuals they otherwise would not have had the opportunity
to know, and often build bonds of friendship that remain strong long after
they leave Emory.
10. LIVE IT UP!
Living at Emory allows you to make the most of your college experience.
After all, you are only going to be here for about two years… don’t miss
out on this
once in a lifetime chance to experience all that Emory has to offer.
