1. disseminating psychoanalytic information to help improve the mental health of our community and the individuals who reside in it.
2. supporting the programs, facilities and studies that will foster individual and societal mental health.

Background: Since the time of Freud psychoanalysis has enriched our understanding of literature, art and human behavior. Less well known is the fact that psychoanalysis provides constructive approaches to some of the problems that are increasing and highly detrimental to society. Psychoanalytic studies have revolutionized certain aspects of early child care.

For example, Bowlby and Robertson alerted authorities to the ill effects and separation of young children from their parents during hospitalization, and Spitz' work on institutionalized infants created public awareness of the devastating effects of impersonal care. We believe that child care can be greatly improved by dissemination of such information and the application of principles derived from such psychoanalytic studies.

Program: The program of the Foundation will include:

1. sponsorship of lectures to the general public on a variety of mental health topics
2. promotion of lectures, seminars and research studies designed to bring together mental health professionals and other special groups. such as educators and lawyers, who often have direct responsibility in resolving the problems of youth
3. grants for the support of facilities and studies that will further these objectives, including pertinent research projects
4. provision of scholarships to qualified students who otherwise could not afford the psychoanalytic training essential to such endeavors
5. support of the availability of low-cost psychoanalysis and psychotherapy through the Department of Psychiatry and the Emory University Psychoanalytic Institute
6. raising funds for these purposes by appropriate means.
