Looking for International Friends!

Are you looking for a way to meet people in the Atlanta community? Are you a person who enjoys sharing your culture and heritage with others?

The Atlanta Ministry with International Students (AMIS) is accepting applications from international students and scholars at Emory University to participate in the AMIGO Friendship Program. The program matches international students and scholars with Atlanta area residents. The program serves two main purposes: 1) to develop friendships between international students and scholars with members of the Atlanta community beyond Emory University, 2) to allow all participants a chance to learn more about a culture different from their own.

In the past, the AMIGO Friendship Program has matched many Emory University students and scholars with friends in the Atlanta area. This year there are many members of the greater metro-Atlanta community waiting to be matched with an international student or scholar. What is AMIS?

The Atlanta Ministry with International Students (AMIS) is a local organization made up of many volunteers who love meeting people from around the world, especially the more than 8,000 international students from 140 nations studying at colleges and universities in the metro-Atlanta area. American families, couples and individuals volunteer their personal time and energy to help new international students and scholars feel welcome to Atlanta and the U.S.

Every new international student or scholar who attends orientation with ISSP receives information on participating in the AMIGO Friendship Program. The information in the application is matched with a local family or friend, and the family or friend makes the first contact with the international student or scholar.

Families and friends in the AMIS program offer an occasional invitation to dinner or shopping, or a quiet evening at their home. You will have the opportunity to get to know your new American family or friend, and may even develop a life-long friendship with them.
