Savannah Spring Break Experience March 8-9, 2008

By Lola Adigun

My visit to Savannah although short, was very pleasurable. We left Atlanta on Saturday, March 8, 2008 and returned March 9, 2008. The Mulberry Inn in historic downtown Savannah was awesome; it was clean and rightly situated in the heart of the city. On Saturday night, the group took a Ghost Walk tour. The ‘Ghost Walk’ took us through historic districts, including the hanging square; old Pulaski hotel; Juliette Gordon, founder of Girls Scout’s birthplace; and Colonial Park cemetery. We heard great stories about the ghosts of notable Savannah figures like little Gracie, the Indian chief called Tomo Chi-Chi, and Alice.

The next day, we saw dolphins on our very windy boat cruise of Tybee Island. The boat captain was very nice. A major highlight of this day was our tour of Tybee Island. I had a feel of the Atlantic Ocean from another side of the earth (I have touched the Atlantic from the West African coast). The seafood was fabulous and getting on the swings arranged along the coastline at the beach reminded me of childhood days.
