Thanksgiving and Christmas Opportunities

The holidays are fast approaching, and the staff here at ISSP would like to encourage all international students and scholars to take advantage of one of the many opportunities to experience Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Thanksgiving

A variety of Atlanta-based groups offer Thanksgiving programs geared towards International students, and one of them certain to be a perfect fit for you.

  • 2009 International Thanksgiving is hosted by First Baptist Church Woodstock, in Woodstock, Georgia will be held on November 26, 2009. A traditional American Thanksgiving Menu will be served along with other menu selections. Entertainment and door prizes will be provided to make the day enjoyable for all. Go and enjoy the meal and fellowship with people from many other cultures around the world. Limited Transportation is available for participants. For Emory University, the pickup point will be at the Front of Dobbs Univ. Center at 10:45 am. Reservation is required; you may get the ticket for FREE to attend this event and sign up at the ISSP front desk.
  • AMIS (Atlanta Ministry with International Students) sponsors a Thanksgiving program which will match you with an Atlanta family for the Thanksgiving Holiday. If you are interested in this program, click on the link for more information http://www.amis-inc.org/students_thanksgiving.asp .

Christmas

Christmas International House

AMIS sponsors a unique opportunity for students to see other cities and areas throughout the USA. You can travel to many different cities across the country and stay with American families over the holidays. You need only pay the application fee, and any transportation costs, and AMIS will find you a place to stay in one of your chosen locations. The program runs from December 19, 2009 through January 2, 2010 and provides free housing for participants.
