Travel Signature Days and Important Travel Reminders

Winter Break Is Approaching!! ISSP is hosting “Travel Signature Days.”

You are required to have appropriate signatures and checking of your immigration documents before you leave the U.S.

Visit our office in the North Decatur Building, Suite 130 during walk-in hours or during extended hours for travel signatures only on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, November 24: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Friday, December 4: 9:00 am - 11:00 am and 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
  • Tuesday, December 8: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Wednesday, December 16: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Thursday, December 17: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Designated School Officials and Responsible Officers will be available these days to sign your I-20 (F-1s) or DS-2019 (J-1s) and advise you on travel requirements. You must bring your I-20 or DS-2019, passport/visa and I-94 card, including documents of dependents who are traveling with you. If you are an H-1B, you will need to arrange to pick up the necessary documents for travel.

Visa Renewal

If you need to renew your visa to reenter the U.S., plan ahead. U.S. Embassies and Consulates are very busy and have limited hours during the winter holidays. Additionally, if you have a major or are performing research in an area that requires a security clearance, consult with your ISSP advisor.

For more information on security clearances: http://www.emory.edu/ISSP/news/immigration/security.html.

Obtain a Travel Reminder handout during your visit to the office. Further travel information specific to Emory students and scholars can be located on the ISSP website.

F-1 and J-1 Students

If you are a student in F-1 or J-1 status, you may go to the Student section of our website. Select either F-1 or J-1 student and under the topics covered, select “Traveling Outside the U.S.” That page will provide you with all the information you need to know before departing the U.S. Make certain that you have either your I-20 (if an F-1 student) signed by a Designated School Official in the ISSP office or your DS-2019 (if a J-1 student) signed by an Alternate Responsible Officer in the ISSP office before departing the U.S.

J-1 Scholars

If you are a J-1 Research Scholar, Professor, Specialist, or Short-term Scholar and are in possession of a DS-2019 issued by Emory University, visit ISSP website's J-1 scholar section. You will find all the information you need to travel safely. Remember that you will require a signature on your DS-2019 signed by an Alternate Responsible Officer in the ISSP office before you depart the U.S.

H-1B employees

If you are an H-1B temporary worker, please visit the ISSP website's H-1B scholar section. There you will find a printable checklist that you can use in gathering the necessary documentation for traveling abroad.
