Stephanie Roberts Receives Award of Distinction

Stephanie Roberts, Assistant Director, International Student and Scholar Programs (ISSP), recently received an Emory Award of Distinction. Lelia Crawford, ISSP’s director, said “Stephanie is deserving of this award because she has many gifts and a “can do” spirit. During her five years at Emory, she has used her gifts in countless ways to forward Emory’s mission.” Internationalization is a cross-cutting theme in Emory’s strategic plan. As such, Stephanie’s work in developing processes to make it easier for Emory to hire nonimmigrant faculty and researchers; serving on committees to eliminate the disparity that policies and procedures may have on international students and scholars; countless hours spent on converting ISSP’s office management system to PeopleSoft, filing immigration petitions to enable Emory to hire extraordinary faculty and researchers from around the world, and hiring and supervising a diverse staff are some of the demonstrated contributions that Stephanie has made in advancing Emory’s strategic plan. Stephanie’s personal qualities also contributed to her being nominated for the award. Ms. Crawford stated, “She is someone who possesses a quiet, understated dignity and bearing, showing respect for all people; consistently delivers her best; is the personification of patience, kindness, and fairness; and the consummate team player.”

Stephanie and eleven other recipients received their awards at a dinner on April 8 at the Miller Ward Alumni House. The award is given annually to staff members who have made significant contributions to Emory University through their successful efforts to create and implement collaborative initiatives between schools and/or units that produce meaningful results towards the achievement of Emory’s strategic plan. Regular staff members and “presidentially approved” principal employees who have been employed for at least one year are eligible to be nominated. The award consists of a plaque and a monetary award of $1,000.
