Help an Emory student learn your native language: Work part-time for SILSSILS (Structured Independent Language Study) is Emory’s new non-credit program for students who need to study languages that aren’t part of the regular course curriculum. SILS students work individually with expert-recommended texts, and are given the unique opportunity to develop their speaking and listening skills by meeting regularly with a native speaker – their ‘language partner.’ If you are a native speaker of a less-commonly taught language and are interested in joining our team of language partners, please email sils@learnlink.emory.edu to request an application. You must be able to commit to 3-4 hours of meeting/preparation time every week during the semester. (payment: $18/hour). No language teaching experience is necessary. SILS began as a pilot program this fall and will be running every spring and fall semester hereafter, so you can contact us at any time to be added to our database of potential language partners. Languages of interest so far have included Swahili, Twi, Indonesian, ASL, Haitian Creole, Turkish, Swedish, Welsh, Bengali, Georgian, and Thai, among many others. Visit http://www.cet.emory.edu/eclc/sils.cfm for more information. See flyer.
