SHORTENING AN F-1 PROGRAM

Definition

The student who will complete her or his program of study before the date of completion listed in item #5 on the I-20 must report it by submitting a “Shorten Program Request”. She or he must apply for the shortening of his or her program as soon as this information can be verified by the Academic Advisor or Dean of Student’s Department.

Eligibility

The student must

  • Have D/S written on the I-94 card (the small white card that is attached in the passport)
  • Have continually maintained status and must be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Prove that the shortening has been approved by the Academic Advisor or Dean by submitting the completed shorten program request form or in Letter form on University Letterhead from the Department.

Procedure

The student may drop off the following documents for their International Student Advisor:

  • A completed and signed Academic Advisor's Recommendation for the SHORTEN PROGRAM REQUEST
  • Copies of most current I-20 (Page 1 and Page 3)
  • Student’s ID Number and current e-mail contact information (requested on SHORTEN PROGRAM REQUEST document)

You will be e-mailed by your International Student Advisor when your new I-20 is ready to be signed and picked up.
