STUDENT INFORMATION
CREDENTIAL EVALUATION REQUIREMENTS

Credential Evaluation services evaluate and establish comparability between foreign and U.S. educational credentials (degrees, diplomas, certificates, grades...). Some services include translation services, others do not. Any document that is translated must be accompanied by a notarized Certificate of Accuracy (please download our .pdf document).

The ISSP office has asked Emory schools to provide their specific requirements. Look for your school and its requirements in the list below. Please note that this list is not yet complete, and was last updated on 19 October 2004.

School of Nursing

The School of Nursing requires that all international transcripts be evaluated by an official evaluation service. We request that students use World Education Services (WES), but we will accept other services, such as Silny, ECE, etc... provided the evaluation is an official/original copy and that it is a course-by-course evaluation. The WES evaluation allows us to check for prerequisite courses and to calculate a GPA. We ask for official transcripts from each institution an applicant has attended.

Emory College

Here in the College, we are able to handle the transcripts/credentials of most applicants without an outside evaluation agency. At times, we have asked for language translations from the various foreign language departments around Emory, but in terms of understanding global educational systems and how those credits can be applied at Emory, we have done most of that ourselves.

Goizueta Business School

An official or original transcript from the school (with the school seal) is needed if the applicant sends translations by any agency outside of the school. If the school will provide a transcript in English with the school seal, then we don't need the version in the native language. We do not require or suggest any translation or evaluation service providers.

Graduate School of Arts and Sciences

The GSOAS requires an official copy of a transcript, along with a certified English translation. The Graduate School does not use any credential evaluation services, as the school's many departments can assist with the verification and evaluation of the applicant's credetials.

School of Law

The School of Law requires that all international transcripts be evaluated by World Education Services (WES).

School of Medicine

Emory School of Medicine does not require foreign applicants to use a credentialing service, but many of them do. What we do require is an official transcript from their foreign institutions with a translation of the grading system if necessary. If an applicant's undergraduate degree is from a college outside the United States, they must complete at least ONE FULL YEAR of coursework in the sciences (and English, if English language skills are not strong) at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college before submitting an application to Emory School of Medicine. While we consider the grades from foreign institutions and certainly require that those grades be submitted to us on an official transcript, we concentrate mostly on an applicant's grades from their year of coursework in the United States or Canadian college. We also strongly evaluate an applicant's MCAT score, particularly the science subtests.
