AFTER BEING ACCEPTED: WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT
Please note - The ISSP office does not provide any assistance or guidance with admissions to the university. You must contact directly the Admissions office of the school you want to attend. For a contact list go to the Students section on this website and click on Prospective students. The ISSP will not respond to any inquiries regarding admission. Thank you. Once you have been accepted, you will be anxious to learn more about coming to the United States and how to get the proper visa. First, you must verify that you have adequate financial resources to afford the cost of an education at Emory University and provide evidence of English language proficiency. Be very complete in following instructions on how to provide evidence of financial resources. After finances and English language proficiency have been verified, the school will make the request to an internal administrative office for a certificate of visa eligibility. In most cases, you will receive a Form I-20 that will demonstrate to the consulate officer that you intend to come to the United States to be a student in F-1 immigration status. Occasionally, students are issued a Form DS-2019 demonstrating to the consulate officer that they intend to come to the United States to be a student in J-1 immigration status. The school/academic division that accepted you is responsible for obtaining a certificate of eligibility (I-20 or DS-2019) for you. If you have questions about the certificate of eligibility or if there is incorrect information on this form, please CONTACT THE ADMISSION OFFICER OF YOUR SCHOOL/ACADEMIC DIVISION. After your I-20 or DS-2019 has been issued, International Student and Scholar Programs (ISSP) will be aware that you will be coming to Emory University in the next academic term. We will mail to you, via STANDARD MAIL, a pre-arrival packet. The ISSP office will not honor requests to send your pre-arrival packet by express mail. This same pre-arrival information is also available on our website. While you are obtaining a visa and making travel arrangements, the ISSP office will also be busy preparing for your orientation program. You can link directly to our Fall or Spring Orientation Schedule. If you have any extraordinary concerns or special needs, however, you can contact us before your arrival at our central e-mail address: issp@emory.edu . Please take in consideration that mail sent to this e-mail address is checked during the business week (Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm). Questions are routed to the appropriate ISSP staff member or forwarded to the appropriate campus office, which may cause a delay in receiving a response. |
