Some language proficiency required for Postdocs. The program supports both dissertation and postdoctoral work undertaken in the U.S. with a research focus on the U.S. The program is funded by the Ford Foundation. Individuals of all nationalities, citizenships, and residencies are eligible to apply. For the dissertation fellowship, applicants must be registered as full-time students in a Ph.D. degree program and must have completed all degree requirements except for the dissertation. For the postdoctoral fellowship, applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in a social or behavioral science from an accredited U.S. school or an equivalent degree from a foreign school. Full-time doctoral students who will have completed all degree requirements except for the dissertation by April 1 following the application deadline. There are no citizenship or residence requirements. Applicants must be proficient in speaking, writing, and reading English. Fellows spend one year working for a non-governmental, international, or multilateral organization directly involved in peace, international cooperation, or security issues. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships to encourage original and significant study of ethical and religious values in all areas of human endeavor. In addition to topics in philosophy and religion, theses might consider ethical implications of foreign policy, values determining political decisions, moral modes of other cultures, or religious and ethical values as reflected in literature and history. Fields of humanities and social sciences. Students registered in Ph.D. and Th.D. programs in the U.S.A., who expect to complete degree requirements except for the dissertation by November 22.
