Mailing letters and packagesEmory's postal service is located on the lower level of the Dobbs University Center. Its hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Some services, such as money orders and Express Mail service, are not available after 3:45 p.m. Currently it costs 41 cents per ounce to send a letter anywhere in the United States (a standard envelope containing a "normal" amount will take one 41-cent stamp). For overseas airmail letters, the cost begins at 90 cents for the first half ounce. Mailing rates for Canada and Mexico vary; ask the postal clerks. Aerograms to any destination cost 50 cents. You can register or insure valuable documents or letters for an additional fee. These services sometimes allow for a "return receipt," a postcard that is sent automatically to you when the letter is delivered to the addressee. Ask the postal clerks for more information. The U.S. Postal Service will ship packages both within the U.S. and overseas. However, there are private companies which can ship packages; some will provide overnight guarantees. United Parcel Service (UPS), DHL, and Federal Express (FedEx) are some examples. |
