HANDBOOK FOR INT'L STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS
Health care facilitiesIf you are a full-time student, you can go to the Emory University Student Health Service (currently at 1525 Clifton Road; tel. 404-727-7551) to see a licensed medical care specialist or have routine outpatient medical procedures performed (for example, exams, tests, immunizations, etc.). Hours of operation for appointments are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.,and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters, except on official university holidays. Hours differ during the semester breaks, interim periods, and the summer. Visit www.emory.edu/UHS for more information. They have a special section for international students on their website. If you are a student, your tuition covers most outpatient services offered by University Health Services. If you are not a student, the Health Service operates on a fee-for-service basis, which means that you must pay for the care you receive and then file a claim with your insurance company. Scholars and their dependents should visit doctors at medical facilities authorized by their individual health insurance policy. If you live in DeKalb County, you can also receive medical care at the county's health department and immunization clinic (tel. 404-294-3762), both of which are located at 440 Winn Way in Decatur. If you have a medical emergency, dial 911 on a telephone. An operator will dispatch an ambulance and medical technicians to assist you.
