The MARTA system

Atlanta's public transportation system is called MARTA, or the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. MARTA operates 702 buses over 154 routes throughout the greater Atlanta area, as well as trains serving thirty-eight stations.

Trains run along a north-south route and an east-west route, and the two routes connect at Five Points Station, the hub of the system. Trains run every five to fifteen minutes, depending on the time of day and whether it is a weekday, weekend, or holiday.

The buses that directly serve Emory are #6 (which runs from the Edgewood-Candler Park Station to Lindbergh Station), #36 (from the Arts Center Station to Avondale Station), and #145 (from Kensington Station to Lindbergh Station). MARTA buses sport advertisements on their sides, but they will always bear the "MARTA" name and will have the route number and name above the windshield.

The Breeze Card/Breeze Ticket are reusable and rely upon embedded computer chips to store value and a variety of trip purchase information.  The new computer controlled Breeze gates replace outdated turnstiles and offer a higher level of security and reliability.  New smart card Fareboxes allow passengers to tap their Breeze cards or pay with cash.  Breeze Cards/Tickets can be purchased in all rail stations and some strategically located venues within the metro Atlanta area. Breeze media can be paid for with cash or credit/debit cards.
