NMR USER TRAINING

NMR New User Training may be scheduled for

10:00 pm – 11:00 am on Wednesday, and

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Friday.

There is a limit of 3 people per session. Please make researvation by email.

Make sure you have the NMR User Training Request form ready.

Before Attending A Training Session:

Print out the Training Request Form, have your advisor sign it, and bring it with you to the training session. (If you are in a rotation, have your current rotations advisor sign the form.)
Print out the 1H, 13C and Locking & Shimming instructions and bring them with you to the training session. Read them briefly before hand.
You may bring a sample of your own to the training session. You may practice with your sample TIME PERMITTING. (A typical sample should contain ~~5 – 20 mg of sample in 0.7 mL of deuterated solvent.)

Before you check out:

1. You should practice taking 1H and 13C spectra for several weeks (typically about one month). You should also practice locking and shimming solvents other than CDCl 3.

2. Review the NMR General Handout.

Check out exam:

For the checkout exam you will be required to take ¹H and ¹³C NMRs, lock a D₂O sample, and accurately shim a shimming standard. You will also be asked to take short (5 question) quiz on commands and safety.

Bring with you an NMR key request form signed by your advisor.
