The mission of the Office of Institutional Research is to provide accurate, timely, and consistent information in support of Emory University's planning, policy formation, institutional assessment, and decision making. The IR Office, which reports directly to the Office of the Provost, is the central administrative unit for gathering, interpreting, and disseminating data about the university to its administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Data are released through various publications, including standard reports, analyses, and surveys.
A key role of the IR Office is to serve as the university's primary source for data mandated by federal agencies, accreditation bodies, data exchange groups, and publishers of college guidebooks. The information provided to college guidebooks serves as an important national data source for recruiting and public relations for the university. In addition, the office responds to ad hoc requests for information from other colleges and universities.
