Daniel Teodorescu (404-727-5278) is the Director of the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness at Emory University and an adjunct assistant professor in the educational policies studies program at Penn State . Prior to coming to Emory in 1997, Daniel held positions in Institutional Research at the College of Charleston and New Jersey Institute of Technology. He completed a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies at SUNY Albany in 1995. His primary responsibilities at Emory include supervising the work of institutional research; directing data collection, analysis and dissemination; providing the university's academic and administrative units with relevant information for decision making, and evaluating progress toward the university's strategic plan.
Daniel's research interests include comparative higher education, multivariate statistics, survey research, knowledge management, and decision information systems. He taught Operations Research in Romania and consulted for the World Bank. He has authored and co-authored articles in journals of higher education research, edited a volume on using geographic information systems in institutional research, conducted an IREX-sponsored study on academic integrity in Romania, and presented on institutional research topics at national and international conferences.
Vincent Carter (404-712-9068) is the Assistant Director for Evaluation and Survey Research for the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness. He completed a Ph.D. in Sociology at Emory University in 2002. His primary responsibilities include collecting, analyzing, reporting and disseminating data to sources internal and external to the university. He also collaborates with other administrative and academic units in developing and analyzing student, alumni and faculty surveys and program evaluations. He has coauthored a refereed journal publication and presented on institutional research topics at AIR conferences.
Apart from his duties in the Office of IRE, Vincent also teaches courses in the Department of Sociology at Emory University . These include Social Problems of Modern Society, the Sociology of Education, and Race and Ethnic Relations. Vincent's research interests include comparative higher education, the sociology of education, multivariate data analysis, survey research, complex organizations, and social stratification.
Tan Tran (404-712-1734) has been with Emory University for over eight years working in two separate capacities. He joined the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness full-time on September 1, 2008. Prior to that, he was employed on the PeopleSoft Student Administration Project as an Admission Functional Lead.
Tan obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Currently he is a Ph.D. doctoral candidate at Georgia State University in the Instructional Technology Program. He anticipates the completion his degree in 2008. His research interests are in evaluating the effectiveness of students' learning performance in online learning environments. In particular Tan is interested in looking at students' engagement, interaction and performance in the Second Life (SL) virtual world (https://secondlife.com). His ultimate goal is to merge this research interest with his work in the Office of IRE to consider the SL online environment in Admissions recruitment of prospective students.
In his spare time, Tan likes to travel, read mystery novels and spending time hiking Appalachian Trail.
Sheenah Jones (404-727-0765) is the Administrative Assistant for the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness. She also serves as the assistant to the director. Sheenah maintains the IRE Web site. And she conducts library and Web searches in support of ad hoc requests received by the office.
Christina Steidl (404-712-8920) is a research assistant in the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness where she helps collect, analyze, report, and disseminate data within the University.
