The 1998 UCLA HERI Survey of Faculty
Open to all postsecondary institutions in the United States, this survey was designed to provide information about the workload, teaching practices, job satisfaction, and professional activities of faculty. At Emory, all regular full-time faculty received questionnaires, with 32 percent responding (n=599). The findings summarized by IR compare Emory responses to those of faculty at Carnegie-Mellon, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Princeton, and Stanford. Of the private universities participating in the survey, these composed the comparison group most useful to Emory. A summary of the findings can be read at http://www.emory.edu/PROVOST/IPR/herifac98summary.htm.
