Provost's Committee on Statistics/Biostatistics
Summary: In 1997 the Provost's Committee on Statistics and Biostatistics at Emory gathered information from program materials and interviews with sixty-five key faculty and administrators about the status of statistics scholarship and statistical support. Although Emory has a base of excellence in statistics, there seem to be urgent needs to enhance scholarly research in statistics, expand offerings in both core and non-core statistics courses, and improve statistical consulting services for both faculty and administrators. The needs may be particularly acute for the health sciences. In its report, the committee recommended conducting a comprehensive data-gathering effort based on its findings.
