Fall 2009

We welcome you to attend one or more of the free upcoming workshops offered by the Emory Affiliate of the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI-Emory). See below for workshop dates and registration. NCBI-Emory is a program of the Office of Community & Diversity at Emory. We address a wide range of diversity issues in the course of our programs, including race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic class, age, sexual orientation and religion. We believe that every issue counts and that personal stories change attitudes.

The Welcoming Diversity/Prejudice Reduction Workshop Differences among individuals need not lead to discrimination and divisiveness. This workshop encourages participants to confront deeply-held misinformation about themselves and others, to tell their own stories of discrimination to build understanding among people and to learn skills for building bridges. Come to one or more of the following:
    August 13, 2009. Thursday, 1:30 - 4:00 p.m. (2.5 hour)
    September 10, 2009. Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Full Day)
    December 10, 2009. Thursday, 1:30 - 4:00 p.m. (2.5 hour)
The Controversial Issues Process Workshop Differences on issues need not divide communities. Rigid confrontational positions can be re-framed to take into account the profound concerns of both sides. This workshop provides people with the skills needed to identify common ground and create mutually acceptable strategies for handling difficult issues.
    November 12, 2009. Thursday, 1:30 - 4:00 p.m.
