Academics as Authors: A Symposium on Book Publishing

The General Session
Please join us on Friday, April 11, 2008 for a one-day symposium on trends and challenges in book publishing. The day will begin at 8:30 with coffee and croissants. A panel discussion featuring a varied group of editors and literary agents will take place from 9:00 to 11:30, with Q&A. This discussion is open to the Emory community. Please contact Alyssa Stalsberg at astalsb@emory.edu to register to attend the morning session.

Individual Meetings
From 2:00 to 4:00 these guests will be available for brief meetings with Emory authors. To sign-up for one-on-one meetings with particular editors or agents, contact Elizabeth Gallu at egallu@emory.edu beginning in February. Space is limited and appointments will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Circulation of Book Summaries
Emory authors who wish to circulate brief overviews of book projects among the visiting editors and agents in advance of the symposium may submit a summary of three-pages or less by March 1, 2008. Visit the Manuscript Development Program webpages on the Provost Office website (www.emory.edu/PROVOST/facultydevelopment/ manuscriptdevelopment/manuscriptdevelopment.php) for submission guidelines.

Book Summaries
If you would like the editors and agents participating in the April 11th symposium to have a chance to learn a little about your work in advance of that day, consider submitting a brief overview of your book project. The Manuscript Development Program will compile a packet of these project descriptions and circulate them among the visiting editors and agents. If you would like feedback on a draft of your summary, please contact either Amy Benson Brown (abrow01@emory.edu) or Elizabeth Gallu (egallu@emory.edu).

Submission Guidelines:
--March 1, 2008 is the deadline for summaries
--Page limit of 3 pages or less
--Double-space the text
--To submit your summary, please send it as an email attachment to Amy Brown at abrow01@emory.edu
