Guidelines and Selection Criteria
The Emory Conference Center Subvention fund is intended to promote the visibility of academic conferences organized by Emory faculty and to make it possible for groups that might otherwise not be able to afford the Emory Conference Center to take advantage of the state-of-the-art meeting facilities adjacent to campus. Proposals will be evaluated on the basis of intellectual merit, suitability for the Conference Center as a site, and the general workability of the program, including factors such as dates, anticipated attendance, and estimated conference budget. Maximum award amount: $30/35,000, typical awards are in the range of $10/15,000; however grants ranging from $2,000 - $35,000 have been awarded.
The following conditions apply:
- Conferences are encouraged to charge registration fees. Fees should be two-tiered, with a lower student rate offered to encourage graduate student attendance.
- Previous recipients may re-apply however preference is given to new applicants.
- It is expected that all overnight guests, excluding invited speakers, will be responsible for their individual guestroom fees.
Proposals will be accepted at any time throughout the year. Notification of funding normally takes 2 - 4 weeks. Tenured and tenure-track faculty may apply online or by submitting three collated copies of the following:
- Application cover sheet.
- Brief description of the conference outlining the scholarly focus.
- Tentative schedule of events or preliminary program, noting invited speakers and their qualifications.
- Projected budget.
- Tentative estimate and reservation form for rooms and facilities at the ECC (contact Denise Thomas at the number below).
