Point of Information- Ben Johnson email Dr. Branch explained the email sent to the Board of Trustees from various members of the University Senate and Emory College Executive Committee. It addressed issues of communication between faculty and the Board of Trustees. A copy of the email was passed out. V. Presentation and Approval of Committee Rosters and Reports Carter Center- Frank Vandall: Secured a commitment for Jimmy Carter to speak with faculty sometime in the next two years. Dr. Branch added that in fact, Carter has agreed to speak on Thursday March 20th from 2:45-3:45pm. It will either be a town hall meeting for faculty or he will come to a special meeting of the Faculty Council or University Senate. Distinguished Faculty Lecture- John Snarey: Claire Sterk will give the Distinguished Faculty Lecture in March 2003. Faculty Hearing Committee- Jim Hughes: no business. University Research Committee- Cy Wilcox: Dr. Wilcox discussed the amount of research grants distributed and the budget for awards for this year. Dr. Wilcox also explained that he will be chairperson of URC for another three years. Lastly, he expressed a need for more committee members, especially in the Social Sciences and Humanities. Please contact him at HYPERLINK "mailto:medjnw@emory.edu" medjnw@emory.edu with nominations. VI. Remarks from President Chace President Chace spoke on two topics. First, he announced that John Temple will be retiring after twenty years of service at Emory University. The Board of Trustees and President Chace are working to find a successor. The group conducting a search for his replacement will be comprised of a search consultant, faculty, trustees, and administrators. Hopefully by early 2003 the successor will be identified. A job description for this job will be distributed at the next Faculty Council meeting. Secondly, President Chace appealed to members to create a learnlink-type conference for both Faculty Council and University Senate. This would be a forum for members to discuss ongoing issues during the time between meetings. Anyone interested in this issue should contact Dr. Branch at: william_branch@emoryhealthcare.org VII. New Business Sharon Strocchia suggested the possibility of starting some form of electronic interaction for Faculty Council and University Senate to keep members up to date about issues affecting these governing bodies. Other members explained that the minutes posted on the web and Mike Terrazas’ report in The Emory Report function in that capacity. VIII.
