Annual Report 1999-00

The Distinguished Lecturer Committee members initiated the process of asking for nominations in early November, 1999. At that time, a note to all faculty asking for nominations was prepared and distributed using the university-wide e-mail. This e-mail was distributed on November 29, 1999. A copy of this e-mail is attached. Nominations were accepted until January 15, 2000. At that time, the Chair of the Committee had received 64 nominations.

In early February, each person who had nominated a candidate was asked to submit a complete package, if they had not already done so. This package contained a CV of the candidate and a justification for the nomination written by the recommender. This resulted in a list of 4 candidates, with one candidate having two nominations. The committee agreed to also consider candidates who were nominated, but not selected, in the previous year.

In February 2000, the committee members met twice, Once to review the materials and to finalize the procedures. The second time on February, 17 to select the final candidates. At that meeting, the members unanimously voted for Dr. John Witte, Jr.

At the March Faculty Council meeting, Dr. John Witte, Jr. was recommended as the Distinguished Lecturer and the Council approved of this recommendation.
