Because we did not have a formal meeting in February, we sent out the following update:

THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE MONDAY, MARCH 28,2000 at 4pm

Because the February meeting is a dinner, we would like to report the following updates from the last minutes:

Athletics Highlight: The men's and women's swimming and diving teams captured the UAA championships.

Paul Van Hooydonk, from Miseracordia College in Pennsylvania, will be the new Facilities Coordinator and joins Emory the second week in March.

Conversations have continued with the Brookwood Group concerning the WoodPec roof. At this point it looks as if renovation of the existing facilities is not part of the project.

We are in the process of obtaining final approval for a scoreboard for women's softball. Hopefully the board will be installed in time for the first home game March 2nd.

Building plans for the rest room, locker and press box facilities are continuing with an outside contractor.

Memos have been sent to the University Senate concerning the appointment of John Curtin to the Lullwater Taskforce and the Committee's support for the Facilities upgrades for Athletics, Recreation and Physical Education.

Copies of the two memos will be forwarded to you. I will bring copies of the memo to Tuesday's University Senate meeting. I have also included here a memo from John Curtin to Frances Lucas-Tauchar concerning Lullwater.

MEMO FROM JOHN CURTIN TO FRANCES LUCAS-TAUCHAR

I wanted to keep you updated on the trail project. I am working on a third different proposal now as the Committee on the Environment has nixed the ones you saw in a meeting on Jan 21st. They say they are still in favor of such a project but we are running out of places to go. However, I am checking out some options they suggested that just might work . The COE also wants to move the "bridge", remember that is what got this whole thing started, over toward Clairmont. This would eliminate the reopening of the old "sledge ledge" trails. Dean Murdy also suggested putting in soft surface trails in Lullwater by narrowing the existing paved roads and putting down a trail directly adjacent which I found interesting. So in a nutshell a lot of suggestions are being floated around with nothing acceptable yet on paper.

I also wanted to ask if I might get your support in being included somehow in this new Lullwater "task force" I read about in the paper. I think it is a great idea and I feel I could represent the interests of Athletics and Recreation. I spoke with Chuck about it and he give it his blessing. This and the trail project sort of go hand in hand so if there was a chance for involvement I would love to serve.
