The meeting was called to order by the Chair, Ruth Pagell.
Members present were Steve Batterson, Ronald Johnson, Jean Jordan, Edith Murphree, Ruth Pagell , Polly Price, Karen Stolley , and Betsy Tanner.
Ex Officio members present were John Arenberg, Chuck Gordon and Jennifer McDowell and invited guest, Joe Moon from Oxford College.
John Arenberg, Sports Information Director, reported the following:
Six varsity athletes were designated as GTE Academic All-Americans. Three of the fifteen men's basketball first team were chosen.
Neil Bhutta received a NCAA post-graduate scholarship, one of about ten awarded in Division 3.
Emory is hosting the NCAA sub-region playoffs in Men's and Women's Tennis; winners go to the quarterfinals.
Chuck Gordon, Athletic Director, reported on the following items:
Women's softball field construction costs for the restrooms, locker rooms, and coaches' locker rooms, comparable to those at the men's baseball field, would be $135,000. A separate scorekeepers building would be $68.000. There is the possibility of using one parking spot on the deck for access to the scorekeeping facility.
CONSTRUCTION ON THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN APPROVED.
Four personnel openings (Assistant Facilities Coordinator, Head Women's Tennis Coach, and Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator of Recreational Services) should be filled by the end of May.
AMY SMITH HAS BEEN APPOINTED AS HEAD WOMEN'S TENNIS COACH.

Ruth Pagell reported on the following items:
The Women's Soccer Team will tour Scotland in August.
The search for the Vice President for Campus Life should be completed by September.

John Curtin, Coach for the Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams, has been appointed a member of the Lullwater Management Task Force.
THE TASK FORCE HAS MET TWICE
Jean Jordan reported that the incoming freshman classes for Emory and Oxford are 53% and 59% women respectively. We will have to carefully track gender equity again, since Oxford figures count as part of Emory.
Joe Moon, Associate Dean for Campus Life, Oxford College, reported on athletics at Oxford:
Currently Oxford fields women's soccer, men's basketball, and men's and women's tennis teams, with the overall wins/losses at about 50/50. The goal is to have men's and women's teams for each season. Several Oxford students play on Emory varsity teams.
Student support for the teams is good.
All intramural and recreational sports clubs share one unlighted field.
Martin Grimm is the athletic director and also coaches the men's basketball team.
WE WILL INVITE MARTIN TO BE AN EX OFFICIO MEMBER OF THE COMMITTEE
Opponents are regional junior colleges and some small four-year colleges.
Oxford is considering joining the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association.
