What's New…HPV VACCINE!
The new 3 – dose HPV Vaccine (GARDASIL®) is now available, right here at Emory University Student Health Services! HPV (the human papilloma virus) is a sexually-transmitted virus that is responsible for cervical cancer in women.
- We are pleased to offer the vaccine to qualifying students. The FDA has approved the vaccine for females 26 years of age and under .
- We will charge $150 per dose of vaccine. The total charge for the series is $450.
- Like all vaccinations, the vaccine is covered by the Chickering/Aetna plan at 100%. If you have other insurance, please check with your insurance company about how the vaccine is covered. Otherwise you may pay for the vaccine, or charge your bursar account.
- The HPV Vaccine is given as a 3-part series . Your visits will be at time 0 (the date of your first vaccine), then 2 months afterwards, and then at 6 months (from the time of your first vaccine). For example, if you have your first vaccine in October, your next will be in December, and the third will be in April. Please pay attention to this time course when making your first appointment, especially if you are planning to travel abroad or take time off during certain times of the year.
- The vaccine will be administered in one of two ways:
- By appointment during a regular office visit with your provider (physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant) .
- By appointment with the immunization nurse (Molly Mitchell, RN or Marlene Tessler ,RN ).
Either type of appointment can be made on line at MedBuddy-U or by calling 404-727-7551, option 1.
- We will discuss the vaccine information with you and provide you with a Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) prior to administration of the vaccine. You will be required to sign a consent form.
- You may read about HPV on our Women's Health Program page of the EUSHS website, and you may also access information about the GARDASIL® vaccine by going to: http://www.gardasil.com/
- We are excited and proud to offer the HPV vaccine for our female students!!!!
- If the vaccine becomes available for males, or females older than 26, we will post an update on “What's New” on our EUSHS website.
