Sexual Assault Prevention Education and Response
![]()
We are pleased to welcome Aline Jesus Rafi as the new Coordinator of Sexual Assault Prevention Education and Response. Aline can be reached at 404-727-1514 or via email at arafi@emory.edu.
Aline brings a wealth of experience and familiarity with local and national resources to this position. From 2003-2006, Aline worked at the DeKalb Rape Crisis Center in Decatur, Georgia as Director of Multicultural Outreach and Prevention and as a Victim Services Coordinator. In addition, she has been a frequent speaker at conferences nationwide on issues related to sexual violence and social justice.
College health data from surveys at Emory and at other universities nationwide suggest that sexual violence has a severe impact on students’ academic success. Furthermore, the American College Health Association recently issued a guiding statement on preventing sexual violence among college students (http://www.acha.org/info_resources/guidelines.cfm).
Emory has demonstrated ethical leadership in continuing its commitment of staff resources to this issue so that our students might enjoy academic and personal success. We are delighted that Aline is joining our other prevention educators to assist students (and the staff and faculty who work closely with them) in contributing to a healthy campus culture. Expanding on a foundation established by our colleagues’ work in the areas of substance abuse prevention education, comprehensive sexuality education, and sexual assault risk-reduction, Aline will facilitate a range of individual and campus-wide programs and services to help survivors and to encourage students to make healthy, respectful relation ships the norm.
