The treasures of the Michael C. Carlos Museum span nearly 9,000 years, from prehistoric cultures of the seventh millennium B.C. to the contemporary architecture of Michael Graves. In 1994 the museum acquired the William S. Arnett Collection of Sub-Saharan African Art, which, at some 1,000 objects, is one of the largest private collections of Sub-Saharan African art in the United States.
