Emory Dance Company's annual spring concert showcases the choreography of students in the company. This year's program will include eight diverse works ranging in size and style.

o Karyn Cotes has created a piece titled "Exiting the Scene" that focuses on the emotions and relationships between dancers in the studio. Through four vignettes-a passionate tango, a lyrical solo, a humorous can-can and an upbeat duet-Coates creates a work intended to provide a portrait of dancers beyond their performances.

o Using music by DJ Aphrodite, Amanda Cosindas has constructed an intricate music visualization inspired by dancer/choreographer Mark Morris. Modern, hip hop and contemporary pointe dancers are used to create a physical, fast paced piece.

o Fatima Shani Cody's piece "Struggle Within My Soul" uses the work of singer Sade to show the struggle of a Somali woman. The work is intended to remind audience members not to overlook their good fortune.

o A lyrical, modern solo choreographed and performed by Rebecca Gauchman is inspired by the nostalgia and fear that accompany life after graduation. Ben Harper's "I Shall Not Walk Alone" provides a soulful accompaniment.

o Choreographer Rachel Glick expresses the emotions experienced with the loss of a loved one. Arvo Part's intense "Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten" serves as a backdrop for the quartet as it explores vulnerability, support and a shattered sense of control.

o Ariane Kiel's piece "In the Mean Time" explores the college student's struggle with feeling homeless while trying to balance old and new relationships. She uses music by Roy Orbison and a positive affirmation tape to create a quirky tone.

o Collaborating as dancers and choreographers, Ariane Kiel and Alyson Reiss create a powerful duet exhibiting the dynamics of female friendships inspired by their own relationships. Trust, support, hope and selflessness are a few of the ideas explored.

o Kate Wolitzky uses the music of Kruder and Dorfmeister to create a feeling of blurred line between imagination and reality in her piece "Somnambulism." Her piece was inspired by the arbitrary way memories appear in dreams, and therefore uses unpredictable movements to develop her theme.
