EXPERTS TO DISCUSS TAX REFORM PROPOSALS AT EMORY LAW SCHOOL'S THROWER SYMPOSIUM
Tax reform has become an enduring political issue, whether focused on taxpayers' frustration over the complexity of the tax code or the allegedly aggressive tactics of the IRS. Emory Law School's 1999 Thrower Symposium will feature nationally known experts who will explore the financial and political implications of tax reform, including proposals such as the flat tax, value added tax or VAT, the national sales tax and incremental change of the current income tax. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on February 18 in the Emory Law School Tull Auditorium.
Organized by students of the Emory Law Review, the Thrower Symposium
each year deals with timely legal issues. The symposium is named for Emory
alumnus Randolph W. Thrower, a senior partner at the Atlanta law firm of
Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan, who was United States Commissioner of
the Internal Revenue Service from 1969-71. Speakers include Alvin Rabushka,
The Hoover Institution; Daniel Halperin, Harvard Law School; Lawrence Kotlikoff,
Boston University; Michael Graetz, Yale Law School; former Congressmen Buddy
Darden and Edgar Jenkins
