Theater Emory Offers "George Bernard Shaw Sampler" Feb. 2-5

Theater Emory, the resident professional theater company of Emory University, launches its next playwright investigation with its "George Bernard Shaw Sampler" Feb. 2-5. Scenes from several Shaw plays and some short one-act plays will have staged readings for Theater Emory's first step in exploring the work of the Nobel Prize-winning Irish author who lived from 1856-1950. The company recently completed its multi-year investigation of the playwright Henrik Ibsen.
Shaw is best known for his plays "Caesar and Cleopatra," "Candida," "Man and Superman," and of course, "Pygmalion," the basis for "My Fair Lady." The schedule of Shaw readings by Theater Emory is as follows:
o Wednesday, Feb. 2
"Don Juan in Hell" from "Man and Superman," directed by Vincent Murphy and Alice N. Benston,
"Pygmalion" and "Fannie's First Play," directed by Vincent Murphy
o Thursday, Feb. 3
"In the Beginning" from "Back to Methuselah," "Saint Joan," and "Mrs. Warren's Profession," directed by Matt
Huff.
o Friday, Feb. 4
"Too True to be Good" and "Heartbreak House," directed by Chelsea McKinnon.
"Caesar and Cleopatra," directed by Teresa DeBerry
o Saturday, Feb. 5
"Village Wooing," "You Never Can Tell" and "Man and Superman," directed by Teresa DeBerry
"Shakes vs. Shav," directed by Betty Hart
The actors include professionals Steve Coulter, Stuart Culpepper, Meredith Gordon, Betty Hart, Kim Shipley and Mike Terrazas. Amateur and student actors include Elizabeth Benson, Mark Blankenship, Shauna R. Corbin, Jessica Elam, Allison Elliott, Brandt Haynes, Andrew Kearns, Greg Kordsmeier, Victoria R.
Orlowski, Kayla Pace, Heather I. Starkel, Christy White and Ryan Wilensky.
