CANDLER EVENT CELEBRATES 'SINGING IN THE WESLEYAN TRADITION'
The public is invited to celebrate "Singing in the Wesleyan Tradition" in a day of events Thursday, Sept. 30 at Emory University's Candler School of Theology. A hymn festival, workshops and testimonies to music's role in shaping faith will fill the schedule and serve as the Whiteside Lecture.
Church members, pastors and musicians are especially encouraged to attend. Sessions will begin at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. with leadership by Candler faculty members, the school's Chapel Choir and guest musicians. All events are free and will be held in Cannon Chapel on the Emory University campus. For more information, contact the Candler Development Office at candleralum@emory.edu or 404-727-6352. The Whiteside Lecture is a program of the Bandy Distinguished Chair in Preaching and New Testament at Candler. The chair was established in 1986 through a gift by Jack and Aggie Bandy of Dalton, Ga., honoring her parents, Murray and Lucy Whiteside. Mrs. Whiteside was known as an excellent musician. The aim of the lectureship is enhance preaching through attention to related resources and viewpoints.
