The Golden Child Emory senior Nir Eyal is golden. He was recognized last month as the metro Atlanta volunteer of the year at the 19th Annual JC Penney/United Way 211 Golden Rule Awards for his on-going work with Hands On Atlanta. Eyal worked at Hands On Atlanta during a year of AmeriCorps service prior to his freshman year, and has since founded an Emory chapter of the America Reads program, Emory READ, that has become the largest volunteer organization on campus with more than 200 literacy tutors. At a ceremony at the Buckhead Sheraton in Atlanta, Eyal received $2,500
to give to the charity of his choice. Awards also were given in specific
categories: youth, adult, education, family and groups. All category
winners and Eyal are now entered in the JC Penney National Golden Rule
Awards that will take place later this year in Dallas, the home of JC
Penney. National winners receive up to $10,000 for the non-profit group
of their choice. Return to Archived Student Releases |
