OXFORD COLLEGE ENROLLS DIVERSE FRESHMEN CLASS

Oxford College of Emory University has enrolled approximately 339* students from 35 states and five nations. Following last year's record applications and enrollment, the college was aiming for 315-320 students. Applications to the incoming class were similar to the previous year, but a higher percentage of accepted students chose Oxford from their other preferred colleges, according to Jennie Taylor, director of admissions for the college. A profile of the incoming class follows.

Oxford College quick facts:

o Oxford College is a small, two-year residential college specializing in the foundations of liberal arts

education, and one of nine divisions of Emory University.

o More than 95 percent of the faculty at Oxford College hold the highest degree in their fields.

o After successfully completing two years at Oxford, students continue into the junior class of Emory

College, the Goizueta Business School or Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.

o Oxford College, originally Emory College, was chartered Dec. 19, 1836.

o The campus was named in honor of the English university where the founders of Methodism, John and

Charles Wesley, were educated.

o Emory College moved to Atlanta in 1919 to become the College of Arts and Sciences of Emory University.
