Emory senior Travis Sentell has been selected by Broadway.com's "Rocky Horror Show" contest, the world's first online casting call, for a private audition Aug. 18 in New York for the upcoming Broadway production. Sentell and female finalist Julia Bell have won a chance-of-a-lifetime private audition in New York with "The Rocky Horror Show's" producer Jordan Roth ("The Donkey Show"), director Christopher Ashley ("Jeffrey"), casting director Bernard Telsey ("Rent") and choreographer Jerry Mitchell ("The Full Monty") in Telsey's offices. In addition to the audition, Bell and Sentell will get a New York weekend package for two, including airfare and hotel, chauffeured limousine service, meals in several of Manhattan's favorite restaurants and tickets to two of Broadway's hottest shows. Bell and Sentell were chosen by Broadway.com users from a pool of 10 male and 10 female finalists whose audition videos were featured on the site. Online voting took place Aug. 4-10. The winning performances are viewable in streaming video at www.broadway.com. The Broadway production of "The Rocky Horror Show" will open in New York on Oct. 31, 2000. "Broadway.com is thrilled to give Julia and Travis a chance to realize their dreams," said Paul Wontorek, editorial director of Broadway.com. "They're both extremely excited about their auditions. The level of talent that we saw in all of the Rocky Horror contest videos was amazing. We were looking to find some fresh talent around the country and in that sense the contest has been a huge success." Sentell is a 21-year-old native of Baton Rouge, La. He is a musician
and a member of the campus improv troupe, Rathskeller. He enlisted the
help of many friends to make his audition, a music video to the song
"Dammit Janet" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." His friend Clay
Lockett directed the tape. Sentell currently is starring in a local
production of Neil Simon's "Rumors." Return to Archived Student Releases |
