Emory's Planned Growth and Development Meets Needs of Community
Emory facilities are continuing to expand and improve to meet the needs and expectations of students and faculty---and of community members, particularly in the health care and research areas. This growth is being shepherded by a campus master plan---a conceptual guide for the long-term physical growth and development of academic, research and health care facilities within the university's current boundaries. A separate master plan is under development for Emory West, the former Georgia Mental Health Institute site on nearby Briarcliff Road, that was purchased by the university in 1998.
A major goal of the plan is to create a pedestrian campus, replacing cars and concrete with green spaces and walkways. Most parking will be moved to the campus perimeter, while alternative transportation programs, including increased public transportation and car/vanpooling, are being aggressively pursued to reduce the number of vehicles in the area.
Emory will post a new web site on campus growth and development beginning
Sept. 15 at campusgrowth.html
This site will enable all community members to keep up to date with the
university's development progress.
