    Atlanta, Ga.Thoughts of legal trouble flooded the mind of Emory University senior Brant Brown when he was summoned to the dean's office on a recent afternoon, so it is an understatement to say he was pleasantly surprised when told he is the recipient of the university's 1999 Lucius Lamar McMullan Award and the accompanying cash prize-$20,000 no strings attached.

    Atlanta, Ga.On Monday, May 10, Emory University will graduate approximately 3,156 students from the academic year 1998-99. Of those students, 36 will receive double degrees. Forty-give percent of the graduates are male and 55 percent are female.

Welborn is being recognized with the university's Marion Luther Brittain Award for her tireless efforts to revise Georgia's rape statutes.

    Atlanta, Ga.A Nobel Peace Prize winner, a retired Methodist bishop, an Emory alumnus now Korean university president, and a retired railroad executive and arts advocate will receive honorary doctoral degrees at Emory University's 154th commencement on Monday, May 10. Former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich, the commencement speaker, also will receive an honorary doctoral degree.
