Ovid Gateway Interface

Ovid Web Gateway

The Ovid Web Gateway allows access to MEDLINE and the thirteen other databases through Emory University using a Web browser such as Netscape to Emory faculty, staff, and students. This option provides a more graphical interface to searching and allows viewing of pictures and graphs which come with the full text database.

Technical Requirements: Support for HTML 2.0 or higher, graphics, image maps, forms, and tables is required. Web browsers which have been tested and found to be compatible with the OVID Web Gateway include the following: Netscape Navigator v.1.2 and later, NSCA Mosaic v.1.1 and later, and Microsoft Internet Explorer v.1.5 and later.

You will also need:

Ethernet or an Internet connection (PPP account)
Note: You must have an Eagle/Dooley account because your Eagle/Dooley account is also your PPP account. You must get PPP EmoryOnline software from Software Distribution (404-727-4741). EmoryOnline supports both MAC and Windows95 or higher. It may be obtained for free with an Emory ID from Software Distrubution. For more specific information regarding EmoryOnline, please visit http://www.cc.emory.edu/WHSCL/REFERENCE/remote.htm or contact the Information Technology Division (ITD) help desk at 404-727-7777.

How to Get There:

The URL for the Web Gateway is: gateway.ovid.com/autologin.html

Some Hints for Efficient Searching:

Always start with a subject search, rather than a keyword search. To do this, make sure the Map Term to Subject Heading box is selected.

To see the broader or narrower subject headings, click on the heading to expand the list. "Explode" the term to include any subjects indented underneath.

To Narrow your search results... click on the appropriate Limit To: boxes before performing your search. Other limits are available under the limit button at the top of the page. If you forget, you can limit your set after you have done your search.

To Exit: Go to the Main Search Screen and click on the Logoff button.
