Below are resources to assist you in locating drug information. The databases under "Drug Databases" are also remotely available with your Emory ID number and can be accessed via the HSCL's website.


Drug Databases

  • International Pharmaceutical Abstracts
    The IPA database via Ovid indexes literature worldwide related to drug development, therapies, pharmaceutical sciences and practices, and other multifaceted issues related to drugs and pharmaceuticals. The link to this database is only valid on the Emory Campus or network. If you are trying to access the site remotely, you must use your Emory ID number to access IPA and go through the HSCL's link to Ovid.

  • Hurst's the Heart
    Provides access to a drug database supported by Gold Standard Multimedia. It has extensive information such as: a drug's generic name, brand name, indications, dosage, administration, contraindications, other drug interactions, adverse reactions, and much more. Each drug entry also includes patient literature and a picture of the drug (when applicable). The same drug database is also available via Harrison's Online.

Pharmaceutical Sites

  • CenterWatch Newly Approved Drug Therapies
    lists newly approved drugs by the FDA. It is organized by year (covers 1995-1999) and is broken down into various medical disciplines such as Cardiology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, etc. Each drug entry includes: manufacturer's name, use for treatment of, general information, clinical results, side effects, mechanism of action, and may include a bibliography.

  • Drug InfoNet
    is a one stop site for drug information and a host of other relevant sites.

  • FDA
    The Food and Drug Administration's page contains information on regulations, medical devices, foods, drugs, biologicals and cosmetics, etc with which the FDA oversees.

  • RxLIST Drug Index
    Top 200 prescribed drugs listing, searchable database, by action, interaction, brand name and imprint code.
