SPECIAL EDITION

Wurzburg, Germany. Last night Professor Wilhelm Roentgen was continuing his laboratory investigation of the penetrating ability of cathode rays. In the dark laboratory he noticed a light coming from some fluorescent material located some distance from his energized gas discharge tube which was enclosed in an opaque cover.

He concluded that a new kind of ray was being produced which he soon learned could penetrate a variety of objects and cast shadows on a fluorescent screen.

Look for more details of this discovery in the next edition of The X-ray Century on December 1.

In the last edition of The X-ray Century we examined the history of gas discharge tubes.
