Tim Fields
Assistant Dean of Admission
What do you enjoy most about being an admission counselor?
"As someone who has been in the field of Higher Education for over 10 years, I have always enjoyed helping students and families understand the value of a postsecondary education and helping provide access to such a great opportunity. As an admission counselor, I receive the opportunity everyday to help students, counselors, parents, and others navigate the complexity of the admission process and assist in understanding all that is involved in completing the application process, which is more than just completing an application. I especially enjoy working with lower-socioeconomic, under-represented minorities, and first-generation students who may need additional assistance steering their way through the admission process."
What are your favorite things about Emory?
"The two that stand out most to me are the diversity of the students that make-up the student body and the proximity to the city of Atlanta. We have students from all 50 states and over 60 nations and about 50% of students are students of color. This creates a unique educational setting that allows students to extend the classroom to all aspects of their undergraduate experience. With the campus being less than 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta, students have access to an international city that has all of the resourses they need to compliment their undergraduate education - there's a little something for everyone."
Do you have any advice for prospective students?
"My advice to all students, whether you are just beginning the application process or if you are a student thinking about transferring: do your research. Your education is an investment in you, please don't take it lightly. Do the necessary research to find out everything you need to make one of the biggest decisions of your life. Since you are on our website, keep researching and I am sure you will find something for you here at Emory!"
