Many Emory students indicate they are interested in pursuing a "pre-health" track. The PreHealth Mentoring Office (PHMO) helps students learn the requirements and understand the expectations needed for careers in a number of health professions including medicine (allopathic and osteopathic), dentistry, nursing, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy and public health. While there is no "pre-health" major at Emory, students are encouraged to pursue/study academic areas in which they are interested. The PHMO staff will assist students in creating academic and extracurricular plans that fit their interests and professional goals.

A 2002 graduate, Steven shares his thoughts about liberal arts as a foundation before going into medical school.
“A liberal arts education at Emory means getting exposure to a variety of intellectual fields and perspectives. My studies prepared me for practicing medicine in that I can interact with my patients in a multidimensional way. I can find better solutions to problems with a well-rounded perspective of the world. It also enriches my life with interests and hobbies outside of medicine.”
