Diversity and Industry

Industry has been part of Atlanta’s makeup since its earliest days. Founded as “Terminus,” the intersection of two railroad lines, the city’s ties to business grew out of this convergence. Like many others, African Americans migrated to Atlanta in the post-Civil War era from other parts of Georgia and the South, drawn by the city’s economic and educational opportunities.
