Like most thriving cities, Atlanta sparkles with the performing arts. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is internationally renowned. The Fox Theatre, a grand space that opened during the Great Depression, served as Atlanta's finest movie house through the mid-20th century and stands regally today as a venue for concerts, musicals and films.
A multitude of theaters around Atlanta, including the Alliance Theatre, Shakespeare Tavern and Dad's Garage, offer plays and improv in intimate or large-scale settings. If dance is your thing, check out the Atlanta Ballet. Other choices for the performing arts are listed to the right.

“Atlanta is an arts center in the southeast and provides ample opportunities to see and participate in a growing arts community. My friends and I try to see a production at least once a month. We’ve seen shows at Dad’s Garage, Actor’s Express, Out of Hand and the Fox. These shows include dance performances, theatrical productions and improvisational troupes.
“Through the Theater Studies department at Emory, I have made connections with many professional artists in the Atlanta area. These connections have opened up internship opportunities and allowed me to begin building a professional career of my own.”
