Health Resources for All Emory Students

Emory University recognizes that staying physically and emotionally healthy is an important part of your academic success and overall well-being. Whether you are currently enrolled at the Atlanta or Oxford campus, we are ensuring access to resources for all Emory students. During this period of remote learning due to COVID-19, we have expanded our capacity for offer medical and mental health support to all students by offering telehealth and in-person services, expanding non-clinical support, and contracting with a 3rd party vendor, TimelyCare, to offer free telehealth care to all students, including those residing outside of Georgia.

General Information

Students living in the Atlanta area are strongly encouraged to use Student Health Services as the primary point of contact for medical care, especially for potential COVID-19 symptoms.

Students living inside or outside Georgia and internationally who are interested in mental health support can continue to access many resources at CAPS and CCS because we have expanded the non-clinical support resources available to you. Even if you access TimelyCare for TalkNow or Scheduled Counseling, please consider joining one of our virtual on-campus support groups or skills workshops. We look forward to working with you.

Students living in the US can access TimelyCare's scheduled counseling and medical care visits.

Students living in the US outside Georiga can access limited psychiatry visits (by referral only from SHS, CAPS, or CCS).

TimelyCare is an independent company that provides services using a network of contracted providers in all 50 states. TimelyCare offers free, 24/7 virtual telehealth visits for Emory University undergraduates, graduate, and professional students on both the Atlanta and Oxford campuses.

TimelyCare is available to any enrolled undergraduate, graduate, or professional Emory University student at either the Atlanta or Oxford campus. Full telehealth services are limited for students residing outside of the U.S.

Yes. Emory students living outside of the United States have on-demand access to TalkNow. TalkNow is a free, on-demand resource for immediate access to a mental health professional. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (24/7) for all enrolled Emory students—undergraduate, graduate, and professional students wherever they may be.

If students are outside of the U.S. in a country without internet restrictions, they may be able to access TalkNow (immediate emotional support) by using a US VPN or calling customer service at 1-833-484-6359. In order to use TalkNow, students will need a US-based 10-digit telephone number.

TalkNow, a part of TimelyCare, is a free, on-demand resource for immediate access to a mental health professional. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (24/7) for all enrolled Emory students.

Students can complete an online visit at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (24/7).

Regardless of location, all enrolled Emory students are eligible for TalkNow services.

Students located on the Atlanta campus can call Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) at 404-727-7450 (http://counseling.emory.edu/) for mental health support. Students residing in Georgia can access telehealth initial consultations, crisis support, individual therapy, couples therapy, group therapy, and referrals for long-term or specialized treatment.

All students, including those living outside of Georgia, can access a myriad of non-clinical support groups, workshops, and the stress clinic. CAPS clinicians can help students select their best options for mental health care, which could include, for example, individual therapy with TimelyCare and group therapy at CAPS. 

Students enrolled at Oxford (if residing on campus or in Georgia) can call Counseling & Career Services at 770-784-8394 (https://oxford.emory.edu/life/campus_life/counseling_career.html) for individual counseling and psychiatry services. All students, regardless of location, can participate in programming and other outreach such as  workshops, programming, or consultations with student organizations interested in promoting a supportive community at Oxford and on Emory’s Atlanta campus.

If the student is a TimelyCare patient, visit records will be saved as part of his/her/their medical records. For the student’s convenience (with consent), patient records will be shared with Emory counseling centers (on both the Atlanta and Oxford campuses). If students want to share records with a physician or psychologist outside of TimelyCare, the student can print or email records, or call 833-484-6359 to have Student Health Services send a copy of the student’s TimelyCare records to the specified provider.

No. All the information students provide is encrypted and protected. TimelyCare’s Terms of Service  give more information on the company protecting the personal information provided through its website.

Yes. TimelyCare fully acknowledges the importance of accessibility and has made significant accessibility updates to both web and mobile interfaces. The platform can be accessed through a web-based graphical user interface, mobile app, or through a telephone-based interactive voice-response (IVR) interface—whereby phone visits are arranged by a Customer Service Representative 24/7 (Call  833-484-6359).
