Emory Student Named Luce Scholar for 2002-2003 Academic Year
Michael Coren, son of Seth and Jenny Coren of Vero Beach, Fla. (32967), has been named a Luce Scholar by the Henry R. Luce Scholars Program. He plans to explore environmental issues in developing countries, and expects to be assigned to a newspaper in Cambodia or Vietnam, or possibly as an environmental consultant for a non-governmental organization in Southeast Asia.
Emory Student Named Truman Scholar for 2002
Emory student Christopher Richardson was recently selected as a 2002 Truman Scholar, one of 77 students in the nation to receive the competitive fellowship meant to foster careers in government and public service.

New Emory University graduate Tom Shane’s college career was an accomplished one by any measure. As a result, his hard work earned him the university’s highest student honor, the Marion Luther Brittain Award, given to a member of the graduating class in recognition of their service to the university.

Nine students from Atlanta Public Schools have been awarded Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarships by Emory University. The merit scholarship is for full tuition, fees, room and board to attend Emory for four years beginning this fall, an approximate four-year value of $149,720.

Emory Selects Bobby Jones Scholars
Four Emory University seniors, Dylan Bird, Joel Boggan, Melissa Roberts and Kyle Wamstad, have been chosen to receive the Robert T. Jones Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund Award for a year of study at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. St. Andrews, founded in 1411, is Emory's sister institution.
Emory Student Selected as Rhodes Scholar
Emory University senior John Henderson is one of 32 American college or university students selected as Rhodes Scholars, the Rhodes Scholarship Trust announced Dec. 7. Henderson is the 17th Emory student to be selected for the scholarship that provides for two or three years of study at the University of Oxford in England. Henderson is the second Emory Rhodes Scholar in four years.

Emory University student Melanie Clouser has been selected as one of only 22 college juniors across the country to receive a $32,000 Beinecke Scholarship for graduate study.
