Lullwater House

Attention Class of 2010This page has not yet been updated to reflect 2010 dates and information.  Since many of the details will be similar to the 2009 information below, we recommend that you use the information to get a general idea of the responsibilities and activities surrounding Commencement.  Please check back for updated 2010 information as it becomes available.

Details

Hosted by President and Mrs. James W. Wagner. Graduates, alumni, and their guests are invited to meet the Wagners and to tour Lullwater House on Sunday May, 10. The first tours begin at 11:30 a.m., and the last tour will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Shuttle buses located in front of the Dobbs University Center will take brunch guests to Lullwater House. Those not attending the Commencement brunch should park at the Michael Street Parking Deck, from there shuttle buses will take guests to Lullwater. Shuttles will return guests to both the Michael Street and Fishburne decks.

The docent-guided tour will include the ground level of the house which includes the grand living room, foyer, music room, Emory Room (former Candler master suite), 4 bathrooms, the formal dining room and the breakfast room.  This floor also includes the newly renovated kitchen and the 2005 extension which added the new great room.

Weather permitting, the tour will continue outside to the gardens and garage area with a view of the swimming pool and President Wagner's Model T Ford and end with a bottle of Coke (while supplies last).

Notes and tips

No strollers are permitted inside the house during the tour (traffic moves in both directions down narrow hallways).  There is a place to park strollers during the tour.  All small children should be carried.

Food and drink are not permitted inside the house during the tour.  Bottled beverages may be carried so long as they remain closed while inside.

In order to provide an opportunity for all to hear the docent's remarks, guests will be admitted in small groups.  While the line moves fast, during peak times you may be waiting outside in the sun for a few minutes.  If it is hot and sunny, we recommend hats and sunscreen.

This is a rain-or-shine tour.  If case of rain, the tour will only include the inside areas of the property.

Non-commercial photography is permitted inside the house, though we ask that you refrain from taking flash photography of any artwork.

The house bathrooms are not commercial-grade and can not accommodate the nearly 1,000 guests who pass through the house during the tour in two hours.  A portable restroom is available at the shuttle stop.  In addition, these bathrooms are part of the tour as they contain beautiful original marble work and fixtures. We thank you for understanding.

The last tour will begin at 1:30 p.m.  We apologize, but we can not accommodate tours after that time as the house must be prepared for an evening reception.
