Schedule of Commencement Events

University Mace

2017 Commencement is on Monday, May 8.

Updates to this website to reflect 2017 Commencement information will be made beginning in January 2017. Dates and information currently shown are for 2016, but can be used as a general guide of events/schedules to expect for next year. We recommend that you return to this site frequently for event updates as details are subject to change.

Download the 2016 Emory Commencement Quick Guide with maps, schedules, and helpful information.

Helpful tip:  When booking your travel, it is helpful to know that the majority of graduation receptions and ceremonies open to family and guests are on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (May 7-9) with the bulk of the events on Sunday and Monday.  We recommend avoiding early afternoon return travel on Monday (evening travel is better) in case ceremonies are delayed because of weather.

We recommend you visit this site frequently for event updates as details are subject to change throughout the spring semester.  Looking for Alumni Reunion schedules? Click here for major reunion events during Commencement Weekend.

Baccalaureate

9:00 -

The Baccalaureate tradition is an integral part of Commencement exercises, marking the end of a student's undergraduate years. Emory's Baccalaureate is an inter-religious service with prayers, readings and music from various religious traditions. President James W. Wagner delivers the Baccalaureate address. Baccalaureate is for all students receiving bachelor's degrees (BA, BS, BSN, BBA, and BMSC) and their guests. Students (in caps and gowns) assemble on the Quadrangle near the Administration Building at 8:30 a.m. and follow marshals and the bagpiper to Glenn. In case of rain, graduates should go directly to Fellowship Hall in the Church School Building behind Glenn Auditorium. For the service, guests should park in the Fishburne Parking Deck. Those attending the Commencement Brunch may then walk or ride a shuttle to the brunch.  Special note: this very popular event is always filled to capacity. For your safety, we are not permitted to allow guests to stand or sit in the aisles, vestibule, or areas reserved for the degree-candidates.  We recommend that you arrive early to ensure a seat.  Overflow viewing on video screens is available in a tented area of the church lawn.
